Getting the shot: it goes into the buttock muscle, one on each side, and you'll be asked to stay 10–15 minutes afterwards so staff can check on you. In Taiwan, the current practice is to switch directly from your current pills to the injection — there's no oral lead-in period first. Once you're confirmed eligible, your first injection can be scheduled.
Afterwards (all normal): soreness, redness, swelling or a lump where the shot was given is common and usually goes away in a few days. Some aching in the nearby muscles is nothing to worry about either.
A few important reminders (all to keep the injection protecting you):
Each shot should be given within 7 days before or after the scheduled date.
If you might miss a visit (travel abroad, illness, something unexpected — it happens), just tell your case manager early. If needed, pills can be used to bridge the gap.
If you later decide to stop the injections, start pills right away — the medicine stays in your body for about 12 months, and a gap without treatment could give the virus a chance to develop drug resistance.
